First time Visitors

If this is your first experience with Orthodox Christianity there are a few things you may like to know before you visit.

  • Although we follow the Carpatho-Russian tradition, all of our services are primarily in English. However, there are a few hymns that are sung in church Slavonic.
  • Our services are entirely sung. The cantor will lead the congregation, along with the priest. It is encouraged that our parishioners to join in and sing as well. Liturgy books, in which you can follow the service can be found in the pews.
  • During the service you will see us stand, sit, cross ourselves and kneel. If you are comfortable enough, follow along as best as you can.
  • Children are welcome to join us in the service, crying babies will be loved, they do not disturb us. Children should be raised and taught to participate in the Church and its liturgical life.
  • Bibles are welcome, although the Holy Scriptures are sung during the service by the cantor and priest. If you would like to follow along with the Epistle and Gospel reading for the week, they will be posted in the bulletin.
  • Please keep in mind that only Orthodox Christians in good standing can receive Holy Communion. You are welcome to come forward at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy to receive the antidoron (blessed bread), as well as venerate the cross, if you are comfortable. You will not be forced to or be judged if you do not wish to participate in our customs.
  • Feel welcome to come and join us in the church hall after the Sunday service for our coffee hour.
